Governance Knowledge Centre

The Department of Administrative Reforms & Public Grievances (DARPG), Government of India as part of its mandate to document and disseminate good-governance initiatives launched a Web Portal, namely, Governance Knowledge Centre (GKC) in 2005. From 2005 to 2009, the designing and maintenance of the portal, and creation and uploading of the content, was being done through outsourced agencies. On behalf of DARPG, OneWorld relaunched the portal and managed it till 2013. Since then, DARPG has been maintaining the portal on its own.

The portal is intended to be a knowledge repository and a platform for sharing of ideas and views on governance and is primarily targeted at civil servants and those interested in the practice of and research on governance and public management. It is felt that the knowledge shared by practitioners and researchers would facilitate a better comprehension of the nuances of administrative and management practices and pave the way for taking up appropriate interventions aimed at improving governance standards which in turn would help improve delivery of services to the citizens.

Over a period, the GKC portal has evolved as an important source of governance related knowledge with well researched documents, working papers, government reports, case studies etc; reviews of books in the area of public policy of the Government; news items; events and announcements updated from time to time. The portal also has interactive features in the form of blogs to inspire and encourage readers to share their thoughts on pertinent issues of governance; peer interface for exchange of ideas between experts; help desk to seek replies / clarifications / additional information on the content available on the portal; and a repository on awards, videos and photographs of major events.
